Today is the 50th birthday of Montreal’s Spirit of Rock, CHOM 97.7 FM. As I write this, there is a HUGE party going on at the M TELUS theater in downtown Montreal. There are some clips on the CHOM Facebook Page.
My favorite CHOM memory harks back to the summer of 1995. I was at my summer job and the 9 O’Clock All Request Hour was in full swing one morning and Pete Marier was the host that day. A caller asked to hear Unison by Celine Dion and I have never forgotten Pete’s response to the out-of-the-ordinary request:
“You do realize that you called CHOM, right? How about some Led Zeppelin?
Rock on, CHOM! Rock on!
